Dynamic vs Static

18Nov02

Phil Ringnalda proposes a “Half-baked, and a little fried” hybrid dynamic/static weblog system:

While browsing through Rasmus’s Tips and Tricks slides from his talk at PHPCon, I think I found my answer (on page 25 of the accursed PDF file), in what he calls “funky caching.” It works like this: you redirect 404 errors to a […]

POSTs and Query Strings

16Nov02

Is there anything “wrong” with usings POST with query strings?
In my experimentations with Movable Type’s TrackBack system, I ran into a problem early on: the current version of mt-tb.cgi uses PATH_INFO instead of query strings.
Old: GET http://domain/mt/mt-tb.cgi?tb_id=NNN
New: POST http://domain/mt/mt-tb.cgi/NNN

I had configured IIS to check that files exist before passing control to Perl, so the new […]

*back, Part VI (status update)

Lessee… The basic ping retrieval API is nailed down and I was thinking of release it last night, but I decided that I should complete my implementation first. The PHP code for the API itself is done, freshly refactored for cleanliness and error handling, but I hadn’t started working on a UI for managing accounts […]

It was a good day

Today was the trial date for one of the tickets I received from my car accident back in June. To recap: Wet road, lane change, sudden 360, guardrail, 180, $13,000+ in damage to my M3. Two passengers plus my brother, no injuries. Three tickets issued, two for non-moving violations that I simply paid.

Never alone when I’m by myself

Installing PostgreSQL on my web hosting account was simple enough. Lost time getting PHP’s Postgre extension to work, turned out that I was enabling the Windows version, not the Unix one. Whoopsie.
Got the database created, tables populated, PHP scripts modified for their new home…
I think that I’m burnt out for tonight. In the morning I’ll […]

*back, Part IV

Getting back into the code after breaking for dinner and some television. Winamp fired up, Counting Crows, A Murder of One…
First stop: Need an <$MTEntryTrackbackID$> tag, otherwise I am dead in the water. Dig around for the code that creates <$MTEntryTrackbackLink$>, find it in /mt/lib/MT/Template/context.pm. Extract code to my plugin file, remove code until it […]
