Bluetooth Woes

25Apr03

I got a Belkin Bluetooth dongle from the Sunrise CompUSA this afternoon.

I can’t make it work.

The Bluetooth Configuration refuses to save my settings, every time I open it the “Computer Name” is blank. I have successfully paired with the Nokia 3650, but that’s all I’ve managed to accomplish.

I’m on the phone with technical support now. It’s totally scripted. The rep is in the process of consulting with others to figure out a plausible way to blame this on my phone…

18:54 Update: Rep finally acknowledges that the problem is not my phone and is in fact what I originally described an hour ago. “The only thing I can do now is escalate to a senior technician. May I have your name and phone number please?”

I am case #44119.

19:45 Update: Senior Technician Marylou called. “I’ve never seen that problem. I can send you new software, and if that doesn’t work, you should try swapping the hardware.”

And if that doesn’t work, I’m just plain screwed.

Final Update: New code, same bugs. Guess it’s back to CompUSA tomorrow…

I’m surprised you having a problem. My experiences with Belkin’s Bluetooth products have been very positive, but I haven’t played with their USB adapter. USB itself tends to be flakey. The Bluetooth PC card works great for me.

My problem appears to be with the software that implements Bluetooth networking and services, not the actual hardware drivers.

So I’m gonna lay this on Microsoft for not building that stuff into Windows.

Maybe I should buy a Macintosh while I’m at CompUSA…

I have exactly the same problem. Should I just return the card?
