Please move your web site to a facility that can handle the load of Slashdot. The company that you began hosting with has been merged or acquired three times in the past five years. Their facilities are forgotten relics, nobody on the outside knows that they exist.
The good news is that the resulting corporate entity has several first-class data centers that are more than capable of hosting your site. Contact the national sales office and make it happen. Or move to another hosting company.

Funny you should say so: we just moved (as of May 10).
Despite being unhappy with the previous host, I was reluctant to go through the trouble of moving because there’s so little guarantee that the new hosting provider would not be bought shortly after I moved there.
Anyway, I have moved. Let’s hope that the new host stays independent for several years.
