I picked up a Linksys BEFW11S4 on 9/26. As of this morning it has locked up 11 times — stops routing packets across the WAN port, stops responding on it’s internal IP. It actually crashed three times this morning. The only problem my old graphite Airport ever had is that I can never remember the password because I need it so rarely…
The Linksys will be going back to Best Buy tomorrow morning. I will never consider buying one of their products again and will counsel anyone who asks my opinion to choose another brand.
Time to figure out how to re-configure iptables, again…

Strange!?!?!
I have a version 1 that is firmware’d up to current and has worked non-stop and perfectly for almost 3 years, I think…
I use it with cable (of course), and internally have two hardwired PCs, a wirelessly connected laptop and a wirelessly connected IPAQ all hitting it at once (whoops, forgot the xbox!?!?!–still hardwired, however)
Linksys drops the ball alot, just take a look at their “wireless presentation gateway” (I still have one in the box because it is not worth deploying to support). But they are a great value…on the stuff that works, like my befw11s4, unlike yours.
Will check back to see how you replaced it…
FWIW, mine is a v4 with the v1.45.3 firmware. It crashed three more times this morning.
I’m not gonna be able to get it back to Best Buy until the weekend. Think I’ll try the Microsoft 802.11b router, it’s about $40 after rebates.
