Philadelphia
I sometimes say that I’m from Philly because people who aren’t familiar with the Delaware Valley region think that South Jersey is near Newark and that the odor must be terrible. Americans are terrible at geography, but most can grok that Philadelphia isn’t near Newark.
Many seem to think that Philly is some poor substitute for New York City, home of the Cheesesteak and the Flyers and little else. They forget that Philadelphia is where our Independence was declared, our Constitution written, and that it was the Capital of our original United States.
And it’s still home to the Liberty Bell, an icon recognizable to all Americans, which I decided to visit for the first time at Independence Hall before flying out last night.

PS: I couldn’t help being amused every time I heard a British accent. If the Revolutionists were still alive, how would they react to learning that England has become our strongest ally?
