Today was my first day in my new Product Development position, back on the day shift. I set three alarms at varying times to make sure that I woke up on time this morning. Unfortunately, the clocks for each also varied and they all went off during a roughly one-minute period. I nearly fell and killed myself trying to turn them all off.
I now have my very own office with a door that closes and locks, something that has always existed only in my dreams. I finally have a desk that is deep enough for my ergonomic preferences too, something that I haven’t had in the five other desks I’ve been assigned since I started with this company.
Lunch time was quite confusing for me. I’m used to getting hungry around 01:00 or 02:00 and having very limited restaurant choices. Leaving for lunch around 13:00 today I was overwhelmed by all of the choices available to me. It reminded me of the reverse culture shock I experienced when I moved back to America… standing in the grocery store, unable to remember where to find anything, overwhelmed at having to choose from 20 varieties of just about everything.
I’m sure you’re all crying a river for me…
On the truly down side, I’m back to a 5-day work week and I’m now stuck with the worst of Miami’s rush-hour traffic instead of mostly driving in the opposite direction. I suppose that it could be worse — rush hour around Miami pales in comparison to pretty much any other major city on the planet — but my tolerance for bad traffic is pretty low these days.
