The so-called Assault Weapons Ban sunsets on Monday… The pro-gun folks seem to have gotten quiet lately in the hopes that no one will notice, and the anti-gun folks appear nearly silent as well for reasons unknown. Over the past few months the market for pre-ban weapons has evaporated entirely…
I’m no fan of the AWB — banning the production of weapons based soley on cosmetic features accomplishes nothing. If our leaders want to save lives by banning only certain firearms the Glock would probably be a good place to start. Every thug either owns a Glock or has Glock-envy. I’d bet that more people were murdered with Glocks last year than have been shot — intentionally or otherwise — by non-military AR-15 / M16 variants during that weapon’s 50+ year history.
Not that I propose banning anything. I love my Glock 26, it’s a far better range gun than it’s diminutive size would indicate, and I’m looking forward to finally being able to buy an AR-15 with a collapsible stock for a fair price. I find target shooting to be a great stress reliever and have been waiting to move up from handguns to rifles. The AR-15 is an excellent target weapon and with the right presently banned accessories it is quite fashionable.
I’m a gadget guy at heart; firearms are just really loud gadgets.
This will probably be my first, last, and only post about guns. Please don’t hate me for being a law-abiding gun owner, but if you must, please refrain from telling me about it.
