Gainward?

Anybody out there running a Gainward FX PowerPack ! Ultra/980 Professional VIVO DVI-DVI with dual 1600×1200 DVI LCDs, particularly Dell 2001FPs?

The price is right, just a few bucks more than the Matrox P650. The specs seem excellent. But I’ve never heard of the brand. And knowing that many cards have trouble driving dual — or even single — 1600×1200 DVI displays I hesitate to buy from an unknown manufacturer.

My computer needs to just work, I have neither the patience nor time for futzing around. When I rebuilt this PC I was planning to never have to upgrade anything except the RAM and hard drive — the motherboard has everything on-board, down to the dual analog VGA ports.

In my wildest dreams I never expected to own two large digital LCDs…

Update: Looks like the HIS Excalibur 9600 Dual DVI is an even less expensive option. Still looking for post-purchase reports that either card works well with dual 2001FPs or other 1600×1200 DVI displays.

Haven’t used either of those cards, but do use a matrox p750 to drive a pair of FP2001, which i’ve been very happy with.

Yeah. The voices of you & Brad Wilson are what stopped me from just impulse buying the first Dual DVI card I could find.

My gut says that if I buy a Maxtrox P650 or P750 I’ll want something better as soon as I buy a new game. A mid-range GeForce or Radeon with a ton of RAM seems much more likely to be “Good Enough” for the 24-30 months I expect to be using this PC. I just want to be sure that the one I buy won’t have DVI issues…
