Monster LCD for Cheap?

14Feb05

Dell’s site finally has official information on the upcoming Dell 2405FPW 24-inch Widescreen LCD monitor, due for release in March. It’ll have all the usual stuff from Dell’s DVI displays, plus two extra USB ports, Component video, and a “9-in-1″ memory card reader. Gizmodo reports that the rumour-mongers expect a roughly $1000 pricetag. Compare with Apple’s $1799 23-inch Cinema display and HP’s equivalent f2304 that was going for around $1500 ahead of the holiday season.

There’s no way I could resist a 24-inch LCD for $1000, so for the sake of my European Vacation Fund I hope that Gizmodo’s sources are a few hundred bucks off…

Update: ExtemeTech has a positive review. The official price is $1199. With Dell’s frequent and aggressive LCD promotions this bad boy could conceivably be had “on sale” for a mere $750-$900. Wow!

the HP f2304 for $1500 ??? the cheapest i can find is from pricegrabber.com / ecost: $1989 + fat$ shipping (there is a tiny $100 mail in rebate, which for me never arrive so am not counting it). Could you give some link where you saw it for 1500 ? thanks

Well, ya know, the holiday season is a few months past. Costco.com is one place that had the HP for $1600-ish before a rebate, plenty of others were listing it for less.

But why spend more when the Dell will be available in a matter of days?

well, cause, the Dell 24 is just a monitor. I would buy it though if they sell it upto 800-900, but am sure, its going to be expensive. If its $1100 or more … am not sure if its good deal. (The HP $1900 set is a TV also). Between the sony premier pro is being sold for 1500 but refurbished.

My current big honking 21″ dell, probably 3 yr old is dying quick, so i need something soon. Also between there is a 699 refurbished Westinghouse LCD-TV deal, caveat !! 1280×768

The HP has no tuner of any kind, it’s not a television and has fewer inputs than the Dell.
