Ultimate HTPC Case?

18Feb05

Scanning my bookmarks yesterday I came across A-Tech Fabrication’s HTPC cases. I’ve got no idea where that bookmark came from or how long it’s been there, but they have some rockin’ cases that are “machined from aircraft grade 6061-T6 heat-treated aluminum alloy” — no pansy-ass stamped and folded materials on the inside of these monster cases. The magic of all-aluminum construction means that they do an awesome job of dissipating heat with a minimal number of low-speed fans, and The HeatSync Case with optional CPU and Video Card HeatSyncs can passively cool a complete P4 / A64 system with a top-end video card.

Every case is BTO and massively customizable — choice of optical drive style (tray, slot, or laptop slot), buttons, LEDs, mounts for Matrix Orbital VFD/LCDs, IRman / USB-UIRT receivers, Griffin PowerMates, and Xenarc touch screen displays, or pretty much anything short of Neon. There is an active thread on AVS Forum dedicated to these cases that spans 2.5 years and nearly 2000 posts (Glenn_L is the creator).

Clearly these HTPC cases are in a league of their own, and they have prices to match — $420-$615 without power supply, options can easily exceed $200. Delivery time is several months.

Makes an Ahanix case seems pretty cheap…
