Praise Murphy

28Mar05

So I cancelled Tivo the other day, and today I come home to MCE recording failures. It didn’t even appear to “know” that it missed the recordings — they still showed in the schedule for earlier in the day. Only after I re-scheduled one of the recordings did they miraculously disappear from the Schedule and show up with errors in the History.

[Crappy Daytime Rerun] was not recorded due to a temporary failure caused by either a system malfunction or a power loss.

Talk about deflecting blame. Power outages are not a problem — I have more giant freaking UPSes than I know what to do with (gotta love cheap surplus gear from work). Other than the recording failure there are no malfunctions that I can detect — it woke right up when I hit the remote, had no trouble waking up later for a test recording I scheduled.

More than anything I’m just peeved that computer error messages are so damned lame.

And I’m again reminded that Windows XP is MCE’s greatest flaw.
