Rice’d Out

18Aug05

UPS delivered my exhaust kit right on time this afternoon. I ducked out of work a little early and headed to the nearest Midas. One hour and $85 later the cat-back portion was installed. OMFG is it loud! Up to about 4,000RPM it just plain sounds mean. Above that it sounds like the factory muffler but with more hot dB action. At constant throttle the interior sound level isn’t too bad, it’s louder but from the drive home it doesn’t seem annoying — there’s no “droning” like the E36 325 I had in Germany (best sounding I-6 I’ve ever heard, but at autobahn speeds it felt like my head was going to explode).

I’m probably not going to be able to run any events at Hialeah Park. There’s a noise restriction there due to a nearby flamingo preserve and the rule of thumb is “if you think your car is loud, or others have said your car is loud, it’s too loud.” Bummer.

I found someone looking to get rid of some Rota Subzero wheels (stock-sized, lightweight, in Silver) with Kumho Ecsta MX tires that still have plenty of tread left for about half the brand-new selling price. My present bank balance likes that much better than the $1500-$2000 I expected to spend on pricier brands. Should know tomorrow if this deal will happen. If it does then I’m basically done with my D-Stock mods, yippie!

Crappy camphone picks ’cause I still haven’t replaced my lost camera (Panasonic has a bunch of new and revised models coming September 25th)…
