Google Frees Urchin

14Nov05

If you’d been wondering what Google planned to do with Urchin, now we know: Google Analytics. It looks like the successor to Urchin 6 On Demand, now free with no limits for Google Adwords account holders and up to 5 Million page views per month for anyone else. Prior to the Google acquisition this service cost over $7,000 per year (reduced to about $2,400 in May). Competitors charge similar prices — sucks to be WebTrends right now.

The site is slammed right now, so good luck trying to sign up.

The self-hosted version of Urchin is getting the redheaded stepchild treatment. Google has foisted off sales to “partners”, removed the marketing material, and broken every link I had to their knowledge base. I’m not looking forward to the next Urchin 5.7 escalation I get…
