We’re Hiring

22Nov06

We’ve got an immediate opening in Atlanta for a Windows Systems Engineer on a 3-month contract-to-perm basis. We’re looking for someone that can hit the ground running to ease my workload and act as the Systems Engineering department’s local point of contact for the Atlanta office. Due to the latter we require someone able to work in our Centennial Tower office on a schedule that approximates normal business hours. As this position is remote to the rest of the Systems Engineering department (we’re all based in Miami) we require someone with fantastic communication skills who is comfortable working with relatively little face-to-face supervision.

The Systems Engineering department is primarily responsible for maintaining our provisioning systems and processes. Everything that happens from the moment a Provisioning Technician plugs a server into the provisioning network to the moment they deploy that server in the data center is our responsibility. That includes the Microsoft Automated Deployment Services (ADS) servers, the images and task sequences contained on them, and various scripts that re-configure the deployed images for production use and automate the the installation and configuration of add-on software such as Plesk or SQL Server 2005. We also package up add-on software into “one-click” installers for deployment to existing customer servers, test new software products, define the optimal configurations for our environment and customer requirements, blah blah blah.

General PC and Internet troubleshooting skills are a requirement. A successful candidate should be aware of most of the following and highly skilled in at least a few: ADS, Sysprep, unattended installations, batch files, WSH, VBscript, C#, VMware ESX, SQL Server 2005 x64, Windows Clustering, SQL Server Clustering, MSI, Innosetup, NSIS, Subversion, Plesk, Mail Enable, Urchin. Experience in the web hosting industry or with large scale server deployments is a huge plus. Expert-level knowledge in any products that could improve our provisioning, management, or customer experiences is quite desirable.

This is not an “on call” position, we have no operational responsibilities beyond the ADS servers. Our short-term project list includes [removed at the request of management]. Once those projects are complete we’ll be looking towards new products, [removed at the request of management], and other fun back-end stuff.

Our work environment is casual, our vending machines are subsidized, and there’s a chance of scoring an office with a door and window. For permanent employees Peer 1 offers 401k matching with immediate vesting, 3+ weeks paid vacation, dental, vision, a number of medical plans, toll / parking reimbursement or reduced-price MARTA cards, etc.

If you or someone you know is well-qualified for this position, please contact me.
