Y!MU > XM

18Mar07

After a week of having XM Radio in the car I’ve become convinced that having more music in the car is a good thing but XM isn’t the answer — they have no stations that I want to listen to for more than 10 minutes at a time and the constant hunt for something worth listening seems likely to cause my eventual death. So I’ve signed up for Yahoo! Music Unlimited TO GO (what a ridiculous name) and ordered a 60GB Creative Zen Vision:M (ditto). The Mastercard promotion for a free second year of Y!MU is what finally sold me.

About 80% of my 4,078 track MP3 collection comes from CDs that I purchased during 2000 to 2002 so there’s no shortage of newer and older favorites to download. So far I’ve downloaded 2,034 tracks from 186 albums. The strangest find of the day must be Grasshopper Takeover’s See No Evil album, featuring rock remakes of rap classics such as O.P.P. and Baby Got Back. My happiest find so far is Smash Mouth, somehow I’ve managed to not buy a single one of their albums despite seeing them in concert at least twice!
