Dear Microsoft,

26Oct07

Please stop re-using acronyms. Yesterday I saw some “WDS” articles come thru Google Reader. Excited to learn something new about Windows Deployment Services, I clicked only to discover some dreck about Windows Destop Search.
Tonight I’m searching for Windows Preinstallation Environment and getting results for Windows Portable Executable format.
Automated Deployment Services vs. Active Directory Services.
I could […]

Seven Down

23Oct07

Finished paying off seven credit cards this week, with at least four going into the to-be-cancelled pile. With two more cards and three grand to go I ought to be “debt free” by Christmas. Minus the 30 payments remaining on my car.

LayeredTech has announced Solaris-based offerings. According to their product page there will be dedicated Opteron, Xeon, and UltraSparc platforms along with a virtualized product.
Whenever I bring up Solaris at the office people look at me like I’ve been afflicted with word salad.

Misc

14Oct07

I don’t want to go back to work. Take my job, please. Half of this week I will be (unsuccessfully) trying not to fall asleep in project roadmap meetings instead of accomplishing anything useful with the first ever face-to-face gathering of our entire Engineering staff. Somewhere in the planning process a good idea went horribly […]

iPods for Everyone

10Oct07

Over at the day job we’re giving away iPods again — a 4GB Nano with most servers, an 8GB Nano if you sign up for a big package.

At the Miami office we finally got our spare generator moved into place. It took a forklift, flatbed trailer, crane, and a bunch of strong dudes. Plenty of […]
