Must. Resist. Eee PC.

01Nov07

Shortly after getting the iPhone I thought that I might actually be able to get away with not carrying a laptop on my next real vacation. The e-mail is good enough, the web browser is great, battery life is awesome. Except there’s no way to offload pictures from my cameras and get them to Flickr. And even if there were, iPhone doesn’t have enough storage to save me from doing the memory card shuffle. It turns out that my Creative Zen Vision:M has a USB host function, can copy pictures off of memory cards without a PC, and usually has a ton of free space, but that still doesn’t get pictures from my cameras to Flickr.

Then I saw the ASUS Eee PC. A real PC in a ~2lb package for a few hundred bucks. Still not enough storage (or RAM), but it’s got USB ports so I can offload pictures to the Zen and get ‘em online. Sweet! Except, ya know, I’m trying to pay off credit cards and blowing several hundred bucks on a new gadget doesn’t help me achieve that goal.

And then the ASUS Eee PC Tweak Guide told me that the RAM can be upgraded to 2GB, it comes with a complete set of Windows drivers, and there’s an empty mini PCI-E connector for future flash storage upgrades.

Resistance is futile…
