I’m not a big fan of the holiday crowds. In general I try to avoid stepping into retail stores from the week before Thanksgiving until well into January. But… I wanted to gift some gizmos this year, and I wanted the chance to make sure that they didn’t suck before sending them to their intended recipients, so I placed an order with Best Buy ahead of the Black Friday rush for local pickup.
It’s supposed to be simple enough. I place order online. Store receives order. Blue Shirt retrieves items. Updates system. System updates me. I pick up order.
Only the Blue Shirt fucked up and pulled the wrong items. Don’t ask me how — I’d expect their system would have the Blue Shirts scan the items to ensure they grabbed the right stuff and avoid these types stupid mistakes. But whatever. I have no gizmos, everybody is sold out of this particular model, and they couldn’t even refund my credit card on the spot because it was an online order.
Now I wait on hold for a Customer Service representative to give me my damned money back…
Update: Customer Service found me a distant store that still had some in stock. The gizmos are lacking a feature that I thought they had but otherwise meet my approval. To the FedEx store in the morning…
