Part of my “vacation” plans were to get this site upgraded from Wordpress 1.5.x to 2.3.x, and I broke the The Inviolable Rule of Systems Administration in doing some upgrades to PHP and MySQL yesterday afternoon. It all seemed to have gone well but in the wee morning hours Plesk barfed on various config files and everything went down. Put an hour or so into trying to fix it and realized that the sun was about to come up, so I checked my Plesk backups, opened a ticket for an OS re-install, and went to bed.
Woke up. Fetched the last Plesk backup from my other server. Tried to restore but it keeps spewing some crap about missing MIME headers. After much Googling I discover that when you make a compressed backup with psabackup you must manually uncompress it before running psarestore. Lame. Then I had to do about a dozen other things before it would finally restore.
And just when I’ve finally got it all working again, and am putting the finishing touches on my Wordpress 2.3.x test site before doing the upgrade for real, my DNS provider goes down…
