Lessons I never learn

Episode #736: Never walk into Best Buy with more cash / credit than is needed to buy what you went there for.

I went to Best Buy because I gave my old Dell laptop to a friend. She’d been mooching WiFi off of a neighbor, but now she’s moved and had to get her own setup. And of course I can’t just order her whatever router is on sale at Amazon because she is completely clueless and would never get it working.

So I grabbed a $35 Belkin.

Then I saw the monitor display. Westinghouse 24″ L2410NM, 1920 x 1200, on clearance for $329.99 with three left. Oh, somebody just grabbed one. Quick, find a cart. Should I just get the one? Naaaah, get one for the office too.

Put it all on my never-been-used Amex HHonors card. Had I been thinking I would have put it on my Blue Cash card, where it would help me get to the 5% rebate tier on gas, but I checked my rationality at the front door…
