Fraud Detection Still Lame

09Apr08

Buying gas from a place that I regularly purchase gas from = Suspicious Transactions.
Buying gas from the gas station up the street as the first purchase on a new card = Suspicious Tranactions.
Spending ~$1,000 on two gun purchases, maybe 30 minutes apart, on a brand new credit card that was activated about 2 hours earlier […]

Lessons I never learn

Episode #983: Never give a Windows PC to someone who isn’t an expert.
Not so long ago I had a friend in need of a computer. What I should have done was snag an early x86 Mac Mini off a fleabay and scrounge the rest of the need parts from my collection of old crap. What […]

Unimpressed

18Mar08

I’ve recently become a Washington Mutal customer. I’m keeping my accounts with my credit union, but they don’t have any branches convenient to where I live and work these days so I figured I’d go with another bank to take my savings and smaller deposits.

Despite using section targeting to emphasize my actual content and de-emphasize everything else, Adsense seems to be latching on to the […]

Murphy Strikes, ATI Digital Cable Tuner Edition

22Jan08

Tonight was the night to run the cable. Picked up a couple of splitters, a pair of very short coax cables to go from the splitter to the tuners, and a long coax extension to run back to where the cable currently is wired. Grabbed one of the tuners, careful not to unplug anything so […]
