Quarters

31Mar08

One of the unintended side-effects of not using cash anymore is that the large bills in my wallet never become smaller bills, eventually leaving me with no ones to use in the soda machine at work and depleting the stash of quarters I kept in my desk drawer.
So I went to the bank to deposit […]

MS Money

31Mar08

Decided to install a trial version of MS Money to see if the latest version was worth paying for vs. continuing to use Mint for free. On the plus side, Money can access all of my accounts and gets transactions directly from my credit union without using Yodlee — two months after reporting the problem […]

Collections Update

30Mar08

I’ve paid off two of my collection accounts this past week. Both have already dropped from Experian, giving a small bump. It’ll be nicer when they drop from Equifax because nearly every credit application I’ve made in the past year has pulled EQU, and one has been mis-reporting as a past-due installment account.
There’s one other […]

The Plan

18Mar08

I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but… one of my goals for 2008 has been to get a complete understanding of my finances. My first step was to stop using my debit card. That doesn’t really help with the goal per se, but credit cards provide better protection than debit cards. I’d already stopped using […]

Unimpressed

18Mar08

I’ve recently become a Washington Mutal customer. I’m keeping my accounts with my credit union, but they don’t have any branches convenient to where I live and work these days so I figured I’d go with another bank to take my savings and smaller deposits.
So far I’m not impressed. First there was the comments form […]

Running the Numbers

02Feb08

Tonight was figure-out-what-my-budget-really-is night. Guesstimation style. Office had a very nice Personal Monthly Budget template for me to use, but I really need to find my CD for MS Money so it can poll my accounts and figure out exactly where all the money goes.
I’m trying to figure out two things. The first is if […]

Six Cancelled

29Dec07

I didn’t hit my target of being debt-free by Christmas but today I have cancelled four more cards bringing the total to six. It hurt a little, two of them had relatively high limits for my less-than-stellar credit score, but the interest rates were terrible and one had an annual fee too. One shitty card […]

Seven Down

23Oct07

Finished paying off seven credit cards this week, with at least four going into the to-be-cancelled pile. With two more cards and three grand to go I ought to be “debt free” by Christmas. Minus the 30 payments remaining on my car.
Herbstdult and Oktoberfest 2008 are looking very promising…
