Nearly Two Weeks with T-Mobile’s MDA

06Mar06

My 14-day return period with the T-Mobile MDA is just about up. I’m grudgingly going to keep it… I’d rather use the MDA as a data-only device but T-Mobile recently jacked their unlimited data-only plan from $30 to $50, and for my usage patterns I’m better off spending $10 more to bundle their cheapest voice […]

Sweet new iPaq phone

15Feb05

Msmobiles has the skinny on the iPaq Mobile Messenger h6500, complete with comparison photos next to an Orange SPV C500 (SMT-5600, SP3i, etc) and a close-up of the keyboard. Supposedly due in April for €700 ($900).
Another shot fired in furtherance of the global conspiracy to bankrupt my vacation fund…

Still Playing

04Nov04

One week later, I’m still enjoying my Audiovox SMT5600. The horizontal belt case that it came with has already broken. Jawbreaker is massively addictive — my highest “Big Burst” score is currently 420. The 5-way nav bar that hasn’t made a good first impression with many reviewers and potential buyers… is really not that bad. […]

Pictorial

28Oct04

Here’s a quick photo comparison of almost all the phones I had handy at home. From left to right: Handspring Treo 180, Nokia 8890, Motorola MPX-200, Audiovox SMT5600, Nokia 8290, Nokia 3650.

Critics of my crappy camera work and poor lighting may be shot on sight.
I love to bash that old 3650 — it’s huge, ugly, […]

Another new toy…

27Oct04

My Audiovox SMT5600 arrived this morning. Everyone at work is impressed by the large screen and compact form. It compares favorably to just about everything they’ve held up to it so far. Getting ActiveSync working with my laptop over Bluetooth was a challenge — fortunately I remembered Phonemag’s instructions. That first step was the missing […]

Outlook Hazy

13Oct04

After word came out this weekend that some Best Buy stores started selling the Motorola MPx220 I was disappointed to find that none in my area had them. Turns out maybe I got lucky — it’s 1.3MP camera sucks major ass. The webcam I picked up for $15 at Walmart two years ago takes much […]

Audiovox STM 5600 from AT&T

12Oct04

AT&T Wireless has the Audiovox STM 5600 (850/1800/1900 version of the i-mate SP3 / Orange C500 / HTC Typhoon) on their site for $199.99 after $50 and $70 rebates. To reach the phone through the consumer store, set the filter to Bluetooth Enabled. It’s not available as an upgrade phone yet. [via msmobiles]
10/13 Update: It’s […]
