Treo Woes

21Sep03

After using my Treo 180 exclusively for about two months, I am about to retire it to the junk drawer.
There are not enough bad things that I can say about the Treo’s RF performance. My Treo seems to believe that a large chunk of Northern Miami-Dade and Southern Broward counties are GSM dead zones. […]

Treo 600 Launch Annoucement

17Sep03

Orange has announced that the Treo 600 will ship next month in the UK, France, and Switzerland. Brighthand is reporting that Sprint will also launch the Treo next month, but that has not been announced yet. And there’s no word about US GSM carriers offering the 600.
I’m not too happy with my Treo 180’s performance […]

More Sony UX Details

15Aug03

Walt Mossberg of The WSJ and Ed Hardy of Brighthand bring us more details on the Sony’s upcoming clamshell Clies, the PEG-UX40 and PEG-UX50.
Walt Mossberg is well-known for favouring Palm OS devices, but his opinion of Sony’s latest is mixed — web browsing is great, the keyboard is roomy but “dumb” (no smart caps), and […]

Treo 270 for a Song

01Aug03

With a $200 rebate from Amazon and $100 from T-Mobile, the Handspring Treo 270 can be had for the low, low price of $49.99. That is a seriously sweet deal.

Treo E-mail Follow-up

29Jul03

To follow up on my search for Treo e-mail clients, the $35 SnapperMail appears to be the benchmark e-mail client for Palm OS. It has excellent support for attachments, bundled viewers for Photos and ZIP files, HTML mail rendering, browser support, and SMTP-Auth. The “Premier Edition” adds SSL support for $10 more. IMAP support is […]

Treo 600 Gets FCC Nod

29Jul03

Brighthand reports that the Treo 600 has received FCC approval, in GSM and CDMA variants. According to the initial Treo 600 reports, the CDMA version is due from Sprint in October. There is still no word on when, or which, US carriers will offer the GSM version (Orange will offer it in Europe, timeframe unknown).
I’m […]

Treo Notes

25Jul03

Handspring is now offering the Treo 270 with AT&T Wireless plans, and there is a Treo AT&T Update for current Treo 180 and 270 owners.
My Treo Unlocked page has been getting a lot of traffic from search engines, resulting in many e-mails and several comments about unlocking the Treo. Tiger Direct has put up an […]

What Passes for Innovation

24Jul03

Brighthand and Pocket PC Thoughts have linked to a month-old Datamonitor article about Microsoft loosening the Pocket PC hardware requirements. According to Datamonitor, Pocket PC 2003 devices may have built-in keyboards and portrait QVGA screens as small as 2.8 inches.
At this stage that hardly qualifies as innovative.
Until recently Microsoft had done an excellent job of […]
