Comment Spam Storm

22Mar06

I just got hit with a boatload of comment spam linking to http://www.etaloninc.com/pacific-poker.html. Looks like a distributed attack by Post ID. Fucktards.
I’ve temporarily set comments to require registration. And registration has always been disabled. So no comments until further notice. Which may be never because the signal-to-noise ratio was pretty darned low without the spammers.

Spammers

07Sep04

I haven’t said anything about spam in a while. I’ve stopped keeping track of my monthly intake, no longer look for false positives, and generally just don’t care. These days most of my personal mail goes to an address protected by Challenge-Response, and much of my other wanted mail has been manually whitelisted within POPFile. […]

Discrimination

11Jun04

Gmail is trying to keep me down. After begging, pleading, and even placing a few low-ball bids on eBay, I finally managed to get an invite. I hoped to become tby, or bryce, or even byehl @gmail.com… but no, it’s gotta be at least six friggin’ characters.
Google is discriminating against people with short names. Quick, […]

August Spam Stats

25Sep03

Total spam dropped again, to 1299, with 7 misses (99.46%). False positives lept to 36, which can partially be attributed to my laziness in reclassification after upgrading to POPFile 0.19.1. In all, 41.8% of my e-mail for August was spam.
I’m satisified with POPFile 0.19.1’s classification performance, however, it’s overall impact on my system came as […]

July Spam Stats

03Aug03

Spam for the month of July plummeted to 1317. POPFile missed 13 spam messages (99.01%), and there were 17 false positives that included one personal e-mail and 13 from assorted Yahoo Groups mailing lists. In total, 39.7% of my e-mail was spam.
I believe that this is the first time that my spam intake has fallen […]

Upgrading POPFile

31Jul03

Today I upgraded POPFile from v0.17.5 to 0.19.1. Sticking with the same old version for eight months apparantly had me missing out on quite a few improvements. Since I started using fetchmail, I’d been bumping into an issue where mail retrieval would never time-out if my Internet connection was down. Plenty of blame to go […]

AlwaysOn Spam

25Jul03

Received my first spam to a disposable e-mail address I set up for AlwaysOn Network. As it turns out, their Privacy Policy requires members to e-mail memberadmin@alwayson-network.com to opt-out from third-part disclosure.
Spambots, do your thing.
Clarification: I received spam addressed to a disposable e-mail account that I used specifically to sign up with AlwaysOn.
